The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 继大卫洛维上部失利之后再度回归，把背景搬到了中世纪，服化道过硬，搭配A24标志性的装神弄鬼。将家喻户晓的传说故事，拍出视听享受:自然风光、室内外打光、配乐绝了。其中，跨越时间的玩法与奇观制造很是新鲜，大概就是误食云南毒蘑菇的体验吧。★★★☆/7.7

6.3分。纯纯的儿童电影。人物脸谱化，剧情太赶，感动不了大人。
叙事够简单，2.5吧，整体是两头不讨好的作品。局部表达可以看出Lowery的作者性很羸弱，而投身产业条线后，反倒让人误以为是文艺大导被商业制作禁锢住表达一般。与其说是惋惜，不如说是心疼，一个有文艺梦但拍不出水平的尴尬导演。
这故事又有好多背景功课，不做的话观感会锐减，这又算是某种小圈子的曲高和寡了。

画面很美，台词很美，服化道很美，配乐很美，但这故事讲得…真的有点无聊…不得不分四天才看完，也不是高困，就是想干点别的。
