The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 看完觉得不错 细想又有种不知道电影想表达什么的感觉
7.5，每个演员都很棒，情绪持续压抑，不断累积，到了宣泄的临界点，却戛然而止，啊，这种时候就知道不文艺的俗套模式的好了，我们希望这些苦人儿解脱，希望他们从此过上幸福的生活，那些真实生活不给我们的，我们希望多多少少能在电影里圆梦
Katie的养父母一看就是高知家庭，怎么可能和Ruth坐在一张桌子上谈判。分分钟就谈崩，以自己的心态妄加揣测。Ruth解决问题的方式就是咆哮和蛮力，解决不了也是咆哮和蛮力。在这种咆哮家庭中长大的Katie五岁就敢端枪杀人，真的是幸好被领养。一个背负cop killer恶名的人，随时都是一滩浑水，如果真的爱自己的妹妹，知道她过得很好就很满足了呀，或许也有承担恶名的无法释怀，以及亲情大过天。终于看了一部正经的电影。前面闪回镜头太多，节奏太慢。
背负一生，警长的儿子好惨，父亲被杀，自己被绿，绑架还要坐牢。
直到最后才慢慢交代真相，虽然大致也可以猜到。细节刻画的很到位，每个人物都很有特色。回忆的色调是温暖的，这可能是Ruth生命中唯一的一抹亮色。结尾那个拥抱太让人伤感了…
没有惊喜，表现手法中规中矩。最打动我的是Linda Emond的表演，强装镇定的表情下流露出的小慌乱，把女性对女性的同理心表达得如此真实善良。

人物动机无法自洽，既然花了二十年又无比执着地想走近现在妹妹的生活，兄弟复仇、出狱困境等支线有点隔靴搔痒。ps：桑德拉.布洛克演得真好。
桑婆这个表演，可以，年龄感把握得很好，还有那种隐忍的悲伤和创伤后的应激，导演的叙事也非常上头，一点点抽丝剥茧，隐而不发，其实故事本身有点predictable的，甚至有点俗套，但是用这种高级的叙事表现出来还是很能共情……还有我就说这个垫乐感觉怎么这么熟悉。。。又是你，Hans Zimmer。。。
今年目前看過最好哭的電影。桑卓布拉克又沒讓人失望！

警察儿子复仇的线逻辑感弱了些；给小妹妹顶包乍一看逻辑感也偏弱，不过转念一想姐姐真是深爱着妹妹，是不愿让妹妹一生都顶着杀警察的恶名……好片子

这么短的一生。
前边铺的挺好的，可后面出轨戏一来突然狗血了。而这结局太过温柔了。打出去的拳头又收回来了。
背负罪恶换取妹妹的未来，这条路上无人可诉，唯有挣扎咽下。因为爱并不需要证明，更无需全世界知道，自觉值得就好。
好电影。人生无助。而，努力，也只在某些地方有用。Bullock不要再打针了，有鲔鱼嘴的前兆了。
理应可以处理得更好的故事，闪回，冲突与最终和解都处理得张力不够。对于生活如何重新开始如何继续向前，只是提出些非常浅层的表达。确实都为桑德拉的表演服务了，看似简单的丧其实表演层次感还是很强的，但还是被故事卸掉了不少劲儿，比起《美好的世界》后劲差很多。
