The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. 与《巴比伦柏林》相同的时代背景，展现了两次世界大战中场休息期间的德国众生相。主角的身份设定和故事线可谓极具讽刺性的潦倒落魄：空负博士学位而失业，一路向下的人生轨迹，以至救人反溺水的结尾都很难称为高光时刻。然而正是在这样不堪的表象下，对爱和美的追求才显得格外动人。
22-123. 沒get到，結尾像是有意為之，實在無法理解他們之間的感情……政治隱喻很多，遠不如之前的《無主之作》。
